The Eugene O'Neill Foundation maintains the largest collection of O'Neill research materials on the West Coast, including books, photographs, recordings, manuscripts, as well as a searchable collection. The archives are maintained in the Travis Bogard Reading Room at the Eugene O'Neill National Historic Site. Information on the Library can be obtained by contacting the Library Archivist at the Foundation.

Tours

Tours: Visiting Tao House

Reservations: Eugene O'Neill's Tao House is accessible only via National Park Service vans. Reservations must be made in advance by phoning the National Park Service at (925) 838-0249.

Location: Danville, CA, located 30 miles east of San Francisco.

Operating Hours: Tours are offered:
Wednesday, Thursday, Friday & Sunday: all year; 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. (reservations required)
Saturday: No Reservation Saturdays (beginning May 1) at 10:00 a.m., 12:00 noon and 2:00pm

Closed: Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years Day.

Directions: Access to Tao House is via a private, gated road. The National Park Service provides a free shuttle van at the Museum of San Ramon Valley (Railroad Ave. at Prospect) for the short ride to the site.

Fees: There are no admission or transportation fees.

Exhibits: The Visitor Center at the site has rotating exhibits.

Programs: A variety of programs including plays, sea chanteys, staged readings, seminars and lectures is available throughout the year. Phone the National Park Service at (925) 838-0249 or the O'Neill Foundation at (925) 820-1818 for information on programs.

Concessions: A small bookstore in the visitor center is provided by the Southwest Parks and Monuments Association. A variety of books on Eugene O'Neill is available.

Accessibility: The restored Tao House courtyard, first floor of the historic house and visitor center an accessible to wheelchair users. O'Neill's Library, on the second floor, is accessible by stairway only.

Recommended: Guided tour of house and courtyard, self-guided tour of grounds and Blemie's grave.

Length of Tour: Visitors should allow two and one half-hours for visiting this site.
