THE EUGENE O'NEILL COMMEMORATIVE

The Eugene O’Neill Commemorative, a permanent installation honoring America’s first major playwright, is located in Front Street park across from the library (400 Front Street) in downtown Danville. The centerpiece of the commemorative is a 9’ bronze sculpture featuring a quote from Long Day’s Journey into Night.

The sculpture is flanked on each side by four ceramic-porcelain “playbills” mounted on bronze pedestals. They recount the highlights of O’Neill’s life and career, giving special emphasis to the years he spent at Tao House, his residence in Las Trampas hills outside Danville, where the playwright and his wife, Carlotta, lived from 1937-1944.

The Eugene O'Neill Commemorative was designed by the Office of Michael
Manwaring.
