The 18th Eugene O’Neill Festival celebrates the great tradition of Irish storytelling with powerful and playful productions of Eugene O’Neill’s A Touch of the Poet and John Millington Synge’s The Playboy of the Western World.

Preview talks

The Playboy of the Western World

A young man comes to town with a wild story about killing his father.  Instead of condemning him, the people of the village are fascinated with the tale and elevate the young man to hero status, until the his “story” follows him to town.

A Touch of the Poet by Eugene O’Neill

Directed by Eric Fraisher Hayes

Once a year, Major Cornelius Melody dons his old military uniform and revels in the glory of past battles.  This year, fantasy and reality clash, as Melody faces the possibility that he is no longer the hero he once was.

Boxed Dinners

Boxed dinners will be available at all 8pm performances of A Touch of the Poet at the Old Barn. We will offer an early shuttle at 6pm for those ordering boxed dinners. Pre-order early – we have a limited supply!

Two great plays, one great excuse for celebrating!

Saturday, September 16th
The Playboy of the Western World (2pm at the Village Theatre) followed by
A Touch of the Poet (8pm at the Old Barn, Tao House)

The Eugene O’Neill Festival offers you a chance to be Irish all day with two great plays celebrating the spirit of Ireland all in one day.
At 2pm, Role Players Ensemble will be presenting The Playboy of the Western World at the Village Theatre and at 8pm Tao House will be hosting the opening night of A Touch of the Poet by Eugene O’Neill. In between performances, grab a pint or two or enjoy dinner at one of Danville’s many incredible restaurants.

The Secrets of O’Neill’s Danville: A Walking Tour
Join Beverly Lane, Former EONF President, for the walking tour, starting in Front Street Park, downtown Danville and ending at Camille Street, Alamo

The Eugene O’Neill Festival Hike:
A Hike to Tao House
Discover the legacy of playwright Eugene O’Neill and the hills of Las Trampas as we hike from Front Street Park in downtown Danville along the Ironhorse Trail and into Las Trampas Regional Wilderness to the Eugene O’Neill National Historic Site – a hidden National Park Service gem. There will be participation from East Bay Regional Parks, Save Mount Diablo, Mount Diablo Interpretive Society, California State Parks and the Town of Danville as well as NPS and the Eugene O’Neill Foundation.

Step Back in Time with Carlotta, Guardian of Genius: Carlotta Sips & Social
